University of Louisville
The University of Louisville is a state-supported research university located in Kentucky's largest metropolitan area. The original Jefferson Seminary founded in Louisville in 1798 and its successors struggled until 1846, when the existing form of the University was created by the Kentucky legistlature. The University now consists of three campuses: the 287-acre Belknap Campus three miles from downtown Louisville, the Health Sciences Center in downtown Louisville's medical complex, and the 243-acre Shelby Campus in eastern Jefferson County. The University of Louisville offers undergraduate, Master's and Doctoral degrees and has a current enrollment of more than 21,000 students.
